Day 6 -a quiet day in Coober Pedy

Today was our first double up day, or rather night, we didn't need to pack up and travel today which was a welcome relief.
We had the whole day to explore and experience Coober Pedy which we did, there were still things we didn't get to see and do but we had a delightfully relaxed day and played tourist.
Due to different time zones and the end of daylight savings we were up at stupid o'clock despite not having any sounds to wake us, dugout accommodation is very dark and very quiet so we decided to head to the Big Winch (in true Australian BIG style) to watch the sunrise. It was quite pleasant although the kids got a bit chilly so wrapped up in a blanket!
This what about an hour after stupid o'clock looks like

Feeling the morning chill

Good morning sunshine!

On the advise of our accommodation hosts we visited Old Timers Mine this morning and enjoyed our hard hat adventure. We came back home for a swim, despite the mid 30 temp the pool was likeice, both kids had to have a hot shower and wear polar fleece to warm up after.
Hard hats on

Feeding rocks to the blower!

We had lunch in town and Brett and I shared a Coat of Arms pizza.
We had a great experience at Umoona gallery and mine this afternoon seeing life in the past and present in Coober Pedy.

Umoona gallery and mine

After a little afternoon rest we headed out to the public noodling area to sift through the Rock and find our own opals, I was the only one to find one which is white and has a little colour. It's is about three millimetres by five by four! Huge! Clearly big enough for me to retire a rich woman!!! Notice I haven't even added a photo, even with a macro shot I don't think there is too much to see. Aimee is tickled pink as she got to purchase her first souvenir toady an opal necklace.
Noodling

We are looking forward to an early night tonight before we make the big trek North. We plan to see the breakaways and the dingo fence on our way.
