Day 12- third and final day in Alice

I have to say I still feel like there is much more to Alice than we have experienced, it is both a small and a big place, I know that doesn't make much sense!
Hopefully on the morning I will remember to take a photo of the sandy, dry Todd River.
Today we went to the Desert Gardens which is an outstanding park/zoo styled centre filled with a diverse range of central desert flora and fauna. We listened to some interesting animal talks, watched a great free flight bird show and explored the largest nocturnal house in the Southern Hemisphere, it was massive! Apparently David Attenborough rated the park very highly (nice to know he liked it as well as U.S.). Kids had a great time too!

I have realised that I forgot to take a photo of the funky little thorny Devils, I love them!
After this we went to the Cultural precinct where we went to the Central Australia Museum, there were some amazing animals (stuffed!) on display (which I also forgot to take photos of. They must have a seriously good taxidermist nearby. We also went to the aviation Museum (very small!) and the art gallery where wer saw some Albert Namatjira paintings among other works.

We headed back for an afternoon swim and a big dinner at one of those outback type steakhouse places (all so I could eat some camel, which was nice) Lewis impressed us by having the kids tasting plate of crocodile, kangaroo, buffalo and camel, he loved it all except for the creamy garlic sauce that the croc was in!
I have to say that being out here has made me question things and value things in such a different way. I know that less is much more, that simplicity is much more important. I am feeling much more concerned about the hideous footprint we are all making on this planet, this country. It is easy to say we care especially when we live in our densely populated cities but out here you can actually see the impact we make (sometimes just by watching people, sometimes by seeing the amazingly beautiful relatively untouched environment and often by looking at the atrocity way we have mismanaged the ecosystems around us, I am dreading being back in the big cities!)
I have been very bad with my sunrise and sunset photos here, I think it is because we can't really see
either from our room.
Another big drive tomorrow, so off to bed for now.
