Day 14 -Mount Isa

Dodgy internet again so text only at this stage!

Today we travelled east!
As always the landscape out here seems to change in the blink of an eye, from barren to covered in trees to dead flat plains, one thing that seemed to be consistent today were termites, thousands of mounds, I finally got a photo of some dressed (although at 130 km per hour image composition is always a bit shaky).
We stopped at Barkley Homestaed which was a really well kept roadhouse,it looked clean and the food aromas seemed nice.
Wildlife has started to increase again after seeing virtually none, we saw more cattle today mostly grazing roadside and a couple of lizards on the road too! There were loads of finches on the road today not all of them escaped the Everest as it came through, this upset Aimee somewhat but when the choice is slamming the brakes on or may be hitting a finch?!
The bird life out here is amazing, we stopped at Camooweal for lunch and had a number of kites flying overhead two black kites and one very vocal whistling kite in particular. We also had some galahs and a number of other birds too!
We passed some huge road trains today, 4 trucks long, one in particular we passed 4 times (if Lewis didn't have to pee so much that wouldn't have happened!).
This afternoon we arrived in the Isa as they call it and went straight to the Visitors Centre which is an excellent place. We only had time to go to the Riversleigh fossil centre there today but the kids loved it! It was amazing reading about the 20 million year old fossils found in the region, I think we have a few days of filling our brains coming up.
When we pulled up at our accomodation this afternoon Brett was worried saying that he thought it wouldn't be very good and to be honest it looked very dodgy but I said it doesn't matter it will be ok after all it was only one night. We had booked the family suite and the lady said it was the same price as the house, which would we prefer? so here we are set up in a massive three bedroom house, enormous kitchen, bathroom, dining room massive lounge room and a washing machine. All clothes are clean again! Bonus!! Also a recommendation for dinner at the pub up the road which was
fantastic $9.95 steak and salad and it was great! all up our dinner was couple of $ more than last nights  less than average Red Rooster.
While the house is huge it is a bit of a blast from the past but it is lovely and it is very clean, it is a shame we are only here one night.
Photos to come
