Day .10- farewell Uluru, back on the tar and on to Alice Springs

It was with a heavy heart that I said farewell to Uluru this morning. I have thoroughly enjoyed connecting with this incredible place.

Today we had originally intended to drive to Alice Springs via Kings Canyon, a place I hear is also spectacular! We reconsidered the kilometres and general driver fatigue  (along with passenger comfort, while Aimee and Lewis have been great and have enjoyed the landscapes we have seen, we were very aware that we had done several days of viewing land forms and that they have begun to lose a bit of enthusiasm). So all things considered we decided to travel the direct journey and miss the 200+ km on the dirt road. I think we made the right choice, a shorter journey gave us a chance to make a short (dirt track) detour to view the very pretty Rainbow Valley just south of Alice Springs.

The road trip was once again varied in the landscape we travelled through. We stopped for a photo of Mt Connor this time and visited the emu farm again.

I'm not too sure what I actually expected Alice to be but found myself surprised that 20 km out of town we were still travelling at 110 km (a 20 km reduction from the regular 130km) and completely surrounded by bush-desert.
Hopefully we will get to see a bit more over the next two days.
