Day 12 & 2017 begins

First photo of 2017, here we are at Cape Hillsborough, a little further north of Mackay. A beautiful outlook. We have made the cautious decision not to swim at the beaches so far as we are concerned about the prospect of stingers in any form! There seem to be quite a few people who happily get in the water, I'm not sure if they are wise or crazy but in the meantime we are keeping safe.

Cape Hillsborough is a beach where, at sunrise, the wallabies come down to the beach (awesome photo opportunity & one I would have loved to have grabbed but with sunrise before 5 and this place being about an hour from where we are staying it wasn't going to happen). Despite this we were happy to head up and just see how pretty this place was.

We had a nice walk along the beach  the kids found many of the teeny tiny crabs,

and then we decided to brave it to trek the trail up to a lookout. It was very hot but we did it the view and the breeze were beautiful. By the time we made it back down we were wet through!

We were also rewarded with a photo of one of the locals plus her joey

For lunch we headed back to the Marina to grab some fish and chips which were delicious.

Then back to our digs for a much anticipated swim, the water was so incredibly warm today.
