Day 11- checking out Mackay

This morning our plans were to all head out to run parkrun, our second Parkrun for the holiday but is was raining! A lot!!
So we headed out and tried to decide what to do. As usual I was keen for a jaunt in the rain but at the last minute the rain came down again. The kids decided to let sanity prevail and let mum run in the rain on her own. I've always enjoyed running in the rain and was happy to set out but once the rain stopped it got really uncomfortable, so humid. This photo of me heading up to the finish is not a great photo but it is what it is! And I did the run so I'm proud to say I did a tough humid Parkrun.
We took our wet bodies home to get changed and to head up to Broken River at Eungella to view platypus in the wild. As we headed west we saw the clouds lowering which brought much joy to Lewis who kept asking me to take photos.

Despite our patient and quiet attempts today we had no success seeing any platypus in the wild.

We did have success finding turtles

I loved this photo, I kind simple request atop the posts where you watch for the platypus

After our unsuccessful attempts we head for lunch at Platypus Lodge restaurant and cafe to have
kangaroo and crocodile burgers which were quite tasty.

Whiled we ate, the rain came in, so we grabbed our raincoats and tried to see the platypus again.....no luck! So we headed back to Mackay in the flogging down rain.

Om our trip home we saw lots of sugar cane trains and even had to wait for one as it crossed the road.

Once we were back into Mackay we headed to the Marina and the massive break wall that you can actually drive down and park your car on.

After that we headed to the lookout

We eventually found one of the recommended seafood markets (of course the one that was closest to where we are staying and bought some bugs, prawns and spanner crab which made for a delicious NYE dinner

we even managed to see some of the local Mackay fireworks from our bedroom window.

Happy new year everyone
